eCOTS is underway and now it's your turn!
eCOTS is now underway! This is a participant-centered conference and we want to hear your thoughts, questions, experiences, and ideas! One great way to participate is through the eCOTS Social Media Challenge - this year using Padlet technology. Post your comments and critiques in text or media at
https://padlet.com/ekendriss/eCOTS16_Monday
There will be a new padlet each day and each day that you post will give you another ticket in a random drawing for great Statistics Education prizes.
Another great way to actively participate is by posting comments on the virtual posters and entering questions in the chat windows during the eCOTS keynotes, sessions, and workshops. "See" you at eCOTS!
eCOTS starts on Monday morning and runs all week with 40 hours of statistics education programming under the theme of "Changing with Technology." It's a terrific bargain that you don't want to miss. Check out the program at www.causeweb.org/cause/ecots/ecots16/program and register today. Registering will let you participate in the live presentations and workshops, watch and listen to the archived presentations before they are released to the public, participate in the eCOTS Social Media Challenge, and participate in a regional conference near you.
Plus - the program is amazing, featuring keynote presentations by Andrew Gelman and Michael Jordan; 3 workshops disseminating NSF funded projects; 5 panel discussions on hot topics in statistics education; 18 lively breakout sessions; 8 birds-of-a-feather small group discussions; and 34 virtual posters.
This year our Social Media Challenge is Changed with Padlet Technology!
Each day of eCOTS, look for a link to be posted and tweeted out with the hashtag #eCOTS16, and join in the daily discussion Padlet on a topic relating to the theme, or an important event during that day. A double-click is all it takes to add audio, video, image, link, document or text. It can even be done from your smartphone. For each day you contribute to the discussion, we will add one virtual ticket with your name to the random prize drawing (first place is a free registration or one night's lodging for USCOTS 2017). So be sure to put your #nameonit, as I tell my students!

Undergraduate Statistics Research Project Competition (USRESP): This competition is for undergraduate students who conduct research projects that are statistically related, either methodological or applied. The types of research projects may include research work from REU research projects, senior capstone research projects, or independent research projects that are not based on a specific course that students are taking.

Presented by: Pamela Fellers, Grinnell College
Abstract: Many statistics courses incorporate a final project into the semester which typically begins mid-semester with the bulk of the work in the last few weeks. These projects often involve content from the first few weeks of class which students sometimes struggle with application to their final projects (e.g. data collection, numerical and graphical summaries, etc.) This webinar will present an example of how a short-term project has been incorporated into the first few weeks of the class as a way of gaining additional exposure to these early concepts as well as preparing the students for their larger-scale final projects.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar .
