Announcing the "2015 CAUSE A-mu-sing Competition"! Any teacher, student or practitioner of statistics is eligible to enter unpublished examples of statistics jokes/cartoons, songs, poems, or videos for a chance to win cash prizes, publication on CAUSEWeb and recognition at USCOTS 2015! Entry deadline is April Fool’s Day (April 1), 2015. Seewww.CAUSEweb.org/uscots/a-mu-sing for complete rules and entry form.
Instructors, in addition to sending in your own creative ideas, why not tap the talents of your students? Several items already in the CAUSEweb fun collection have been created by students and they may especially appreciate the possible prize money and national recognition. The task of putting content into the form of an engaging poem, song, video, etc., may give students additional clarity on a major content idea and force sustained engagement with it as they craft the entry.

A workshop on "Teaching the Statistical Investigation Process with
Simulation- and Randomization-Based Inference" will be held at Mesa
Community College on Friday, March 6 and Saturday, March 7, 2015. The
goals of this workshop are to help participants to revise their
introductory statistics course in two ways:
1. Using randomization-based methods, as opposed to methods based on the
normal distribution, to introduce concepts of statistical inference, and
2. Emphasizing the overarching process of conducting statistical
investigations, from formulating a question and collecting data through
exploring data and drawing inferences to communicating results,
throughout the course.
Workshop presenters will be Beth Chance, Allan Rossman, Soma Roy, Nicola
Justice, and Anelise Sabbag. Supported by a grant from the National
Science Foundation led by Nathan Tintle, this workshop is free but does
require advance registration. More information and the registration form
can be found at: https://www.causeweb.org/workshop/mesa15/ .
Please help to spread the word to colleagues who might be interested in
this workshop, and thanks for your patience if you receive multiple
copies of this announcement. Contact Allan Rossman
(arossman(a)calpoly.edu) if you have questions.
