W09: Teaching with simulation-based inference – for beginners

Robin Lock & Patti Frazer Lock (St. Lawrence University), Kari Lock Morgan (Pennsylvania State University)

Schedule

Thursday May 16, 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm

Abstract

This workshop is intended for instructors who are interested in trying simulation-based inference ideas (such as randomization tests and bootstrap confidence intervals) but have no previous experience with teaching with these methods. This workshop will discuss what these methods are, how they work, and how they can be easily incorporated into introductory classes. Participants will get to try several activities illustrating the methods that can be readily adapted to most classroom situations using freely available web-based software (StatKey).
