As AI tools accelerate access to data and code, what becomes of the statistician and data science educator? This discussion will explore how we can shift from passive consumption of AI outputs to active, intentional engagement with data. We’ll talk about teaching students to extract and transform data using APIs and R—not just to automate, but to understand. How do we ensure students develop the critical lens needed to question what data is missing, who the model serves, and what stories are being told or silenced?
