# Counting Methods for Probability

• ### Song: Statistician's BLUEs

Statistician's "breakup" song is filled with 2 dozen puns from a variety of (mostly first-year) statistical terms. Song is a 12-bar blues, with the words in parentheses more spoken than sung during the final 2 bars of each 12. Appeared in Winter 2002 "STATS" and Spring 2004 "The Pi".

This activity addresses the concept of sample space. It provides a multi-step procedure and three handouts, which accompany the activity. It addresses events and the availability misconception as well as grouping and forming committees.
• ### Impact!

This is an exercise in interpreting data that is generated by a phenomenon that causes the data to become biased. You are presented with the end product of this series of events. The craters occur in size classes that are color-coded. After generating the series of impacts, it becomes your assigned task to figure out how many impact craters correspond to each of the size class categories.
• ### Bernoulli Trials

This online, interactive lesson on Bernoulli provides examples, exercises, and applets that cover binomial, geometric, negative binomial, and multinomial distributions.
• ### Permutations

This program returns a list of all the permutations of the set {1, 2, ..., n}. It allows you to select the given output, copy it, and paste it into a Word or Excel document.
• ### Venn Diagram Applet

In this applet, A and B are subsets of a universal set S. The list is given of the 16 different subsets of S that can be constructed from A and B using the basic set operations of union, intersection, and complement. The selected subset is colored red in the Venn diagram on the right.
• ### Elementary Concepts in Statistics

Gives an overview of variables, classifications, measurements, relations, and other basic statistical concepts. Also contains two animated graphs.
