Textbook exercises help build foundational skills. However, even when using real-world data, they often fall short of engaging students in authentic critical thinking or problem-solving beyond predetermined scenarios. Research shows that activities in which 1) students are involved in developing a question and 2) where the solution is not a priori known to students or the instructor, foster deeper engagement and stronger analytical reasoning. Despite their value, such activities are often challenging to implement within the constraints of traditional courses. How can we support the development, implementation, and sharing of educational resources that promote these high-impact, inquiry-based teaching strategies?
