Challenges to Integrity of Online Statistics Courses

Presented by:

Carl Miller & Joe Nolan, Northern Kentucky University

Abstract

Advancements in communication technology over the last fifteen years have made it much easier to move content within courses of all types from the traditional classroom to the online format – so much so that many faculty in the current academic climate find themselves asked to make such transitions. Unfortunately, other course infrastructure sometimes lags behind. In particular, significant challenges in maintaining integrity and ethics persist. This presentation will discuss related pitfalls in course conversion (e.g. secure testing, communication, time on task, etc.) and share potential solutions. We hope others will participate via the comment feature to share their own experiences and suggest additional ways to overcome these challenges.
