Learning Communities for Data Analysis and Statistics Technology

Abstract

In Purdue's Department of Statistics, we have recently implemented a model in which students are first introduced to Technology for data analysis, such as R, visualization, shell scripting, regular expressions, SQL, XML scraping and parsing, etc., in the context of a Learning Community. Our model combines the academic, research, residential, and professional development aspects of the undergraduate experience.
