BoF-W-06: Sustainable Statistical Practices

Nicholas Bussberg (Elon University) and Salma Musaad (Baylor College of Medicine)

Information

Sustainable statistical practices are essential to modern research. This discussion examines how we create and teach sustainable practicesì spanning reproducibility, computational efficiency, ethical data governance, and long term accessibility. Participants will discuss challenges such as increasing data complexity, resource intensive computation, evolving software ecosystems, and the need for transparent, reusable analytic pipelines. We hope the discussion will highlight practical strategies for building durable statistical infrastructures, such as open source tools and collaborative code development. By sharing experiences and identifying priorities, this discussion aims to begin to articulate a vision for statistical sustainability that strengthens educational efforts to ensure innovations remain viable.
