Abstract

With the unprecedented speed of AI tool development, implementation, and its integration into the fabric of society, the goal of this session is to pause and think about the values we hold and how those values play into the use of AI. After a brief overview of how we currently teach AI ethics, we will introduce a values-driven game that can be used to teach AI ethics in the statistics classroom. Designed to be used in small teams, the game consists of a set of cards divided into values, stakeholders, and scenarios. Teams choose a scenario and consider the values that would be of concern in that scenario—for themselves and for different stakeholders. The teams then work through a set of reflection prompts. This game encourages dialogue and provides insight into the consequences and potential benefits of the use of AI in statistics and data science.
