Abstract
Drawing on survey responses and AI usage logs, this workshop starts with the investigation of how students and instructors currently use Gen-AI; where they perceive these tools as beneficial or risky; and how AI use intersects with learning, confidence, and academic integrity. The initial part of the workshop mainly highlights points of alignment and tension between student and faculty perspectives. Afterwards, the practical side equips statistics instructors or any interested practitioners with practical generative AI prompting strategies and tools to enhance teaching and data-driven exploration. The participants will both learn the empirical insight into how students and faculty currently use generative AI in data science education and how they can use these tools to support statistical exploration, including data analysis workflow. Attendees will leave the session with empirical evidence on how such tools are perceived, adopted, and trusted by students and faculty, including prompting skills and strategies for leveraging Gen AI.
