July Results:
The cartoon for our 110th cartoon caption contest in July is shown above. Amongst the 24 submissions for the contest, the judges found the winning caption for the cartoon to be
“The half-baked statisticians decided to wear their regression direction output on their faces.” submitted by Rosie Ching from Singapore Management University. Rosie’s caption can be used to discuss the difference between positive and negative correlations/regression slopes and to point out that there is really nothing bad about a negative slope. An honorable mentions this month goes to an anonymous submission of the caption: “Even though r = -1, Rex was still waffling on whether the relationship was meaningful” which can be used in discussions of the variability of the estimated correlation when sample sizes are small.
