"Even if his pie chart was a little ruff, his story made the data come alive"

January Results:
The cartoon for our 116th cartoon caption contest in January is shown above. Amongst the 68 submissions for the contest, the judges found the winning caption to be “Even if his pie chart was a little ruff, his story made the data come alive,”  written by Eric Reyes from the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Eric’s’ caption can be used in discussing the role of statistics in telling a story about the context of the data.  Two honorable mentions this month recognized the value of data visualizations in providing evidence. The first of these was “Who needs tail-chasing when you can tell your tale with data viz?” by Erin Franke, a student at Carnegie Mellon University and the second was "Clear visuals can turn overlooked ideas into adopted ones..” by Kelly Spoon from San Diego Mesa College.  A third honorable mention goes to Amber Doel, a student at  University of North Carolina Wilmington for her submission with a slightly broader theme: “Evidence-based adoption: I don’t just sit, stay, and fetch, I come with charts, graphs, and statistical results.”

Thanks to everyone who submitted a caption and congratulations to our winners!
