February's Challenge: Write what should go on the blank sign...

"Statistical Models — % off varies"
February Results:
The cartoon for our 117th cartoon caption contest in February is shown above. The February contest was a little different in that participants were asked to fill in the words that should go on the blank sign in the cartoon, rather than providing a caption that goes below the cartoon. Amongst the 74 submissions for the contest, the judges found the winning sign to be “Statistical Models — % off varies,” written by Victor Chongchua from San Diego State University. Victor’s’ sign can be used in discussing the importance of variation in statistical models whether they are used for understanding how a process works or for predicting the parameters of the process. Two honorable mentions this month recognized the value of data visualizations in reporting results. The first of these was “Good Data Visualizations: Priceless” by Daryl Swartzentruber from Centre College and the second was "Great data visualizations never need to go on sale!,” by Louis Rocconi from The University of Tennessee.
Thanks to everyone who submitted a caption and congratulations to our winners!
