2027 U.S. Conference on Teaching Statistics
The U.S. Conference on Teaching Statistics (USCOTS) brings together teachers of statistics and data science to exchange ideas about improving their teaching. The conference features thought-provoking keynote presentations, interactive breakout sessions, informative posters-and-beyond sessions, and exhibitor technology demonstrations. Other highlights of the conference include inspiring opening and closing sessions, a banquet with awards, and birds-of-a-feather lunch discussions. The 2027 USCOTS will also feature a Research Satellite and pre-conference workshops.
This conference is intended for all who are interested in teaching statistics at all levels, including teachers at high schools, two-year colleges, and four-year colleges and universities. Graduate students and undergraduates who are interested in teaching are also encouraged to attend. We trust that you will find USCOTS a very welcoming, interactive, and fun environment. We hope that you will meet new colleagues and renew friendships with peers who are united by a common desire to teach statistics and data science effectively to the next generation of citizens and data professionals.
About the Theme
The theme of the 2027 USCOTS is “Constancy and Disruption.”
Teachers and students have encountered many dramatic disruptions to their educational practices and routines in the past decade. One prominent example is the COVID pandemic and its lingering consequences. The emergence of generative AI represents another substantial disruption. AI has not only altered teachers’ and students’ daily interactions with education but has also affected the types of skills that students need to learn to prepare for the workplace of tomorrow.
The conference theme asks participants to reflect not only on how they can teach and learn effectively in light of these disruptions, but also to consider what aspects of their teaching and learning remain constant despite these disruptions.
While not all sessions at the conference need to relate directly to this theme, we especially invite proposals for sessions that address one or even both aspects, addressing questions such as:
- In an age of disruption, what guiding principles do you aim to hold constant in your teaching despite the disruption?
- On the flipside, how do you embrace the disruption to transform your teaching and prepare your students for the world that they will encounter?
Timing of Conference Events
The main conference will take place from lunch on Thursday, June 24th to early afternoon of Saturday, June 26th. (Longtime attendees will notice that this marks a small change from the usual schedule.) Pre-conference workshops will begin in the morning of Tuesday, June 22nd and continue through noon on Thursday, June 24th. A research satellite conference will occur in the evening of Wednesday, June 23rd and morning of Thursday, June 24th. The following schedule map provides the timing of the various events, along with when food is provided.

The conference registration fee includes all pre-conference events and also includes four meals during the conference: a banquet dinner on Friday and lunches on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
