To read Chance News you do not need to log in but to if you wamt to edit a page or submit an article you must establish an account and login. (See the top of any page).

The basic unit of any Wiki is the page. To make additions or changes to a page choose "edit" from the top of the page and make the desired additions or changes. Then choose "Show preview" from the bottom of the page. You will see two boxes. The top box will show what the page will look like with your contribution. The bottom box has the source where you can make additional changes if necessary. In the Summary box at the bottom of the page indicate the type of change you made or, if you added an article, the name of the article. When satisfied that your contribution is o.k. choose "Save page".

The "history" at the top of a page has links to all versions of the page with its summary to help identify it. This makes it possible to revert to an earlier version of the page if someone adds nonsense.

The "discussion" at the top of a page allows you to add comments related to the content of the page. The "discussion" page for the Main Page can be used for comments about the Chance Wiki itself, the discussion for the current Chance News can be used, for example, to suggest articles that another reader might wish to add to the current Chance News, and the discussion page for an article would be used for comments on the article or the review.

To add a new article to Current Chance News, choose a name for your article. This can be the name used by the news media or a name chosen by you. Then from the Main Page choose the most recent Chance News. Using "edit" add the name for your article to the list of the previous names using the same format as the previous names. Note that we do not put a period at the end of the name. Then click on your title and a blank page will turn up. Choose edit from the top of this page and add the source of the article and your comments about it following the procedure for editing explained above.

The statement below about copyright is a little too strong. Since, in most cases, we are doing a critical analysis of an article, fair use should allow us to make reasonable quotes, graphics, images etc. from the article without the permission of the copyright owner. You can read one lawyer's interpretation of fair use as it applies to Chance News here. Of course we should be sure to give the source of anything we use. When you upload an image you will be asked to indicate if you are doing it under fair use or you have permission from the copyright owner and also to give the source. This information will be made known to the reader by clicking on the image.

For further help in editing a page, including how to add pictures, links, special characters, etc., choose "Help" from the side box.

Good luck and remember it will be easier next time!
