Caption Contest - June 2019 - Results

The June caption contest featured a cartoon showing two people on a mountain top looking at the stars. One of them turns to see a group of stars that look like a scatterplot showing a positive trend.

The winning caption for the June contest was "Correlation does not imply Constellation," written by an anonymous contributor. The caption can be used for discussing the traditional theme of "Correlation does not imply Causation" as well as what observational evidence does provide the most convincing evidence of a causal relationship.

An honorable mention this month goes to Larry Lesser from University of Texas at El Paso for his caption: "From their vantage point, the positive trend became illuminated." Larry's caption can be used in discussing how different questions can be addressed, and different features can be seen, in a dataset when viewed from multiple perspectives.
