Non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Statistics and Data Science
Truman State University

The School of Science and Mathematics at Truman State University is seeking applicants for at least one non-tenure-track position in Statistics and/or Data Science to begin August 2022. The position is expected to be at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position is a full-time appointment on a 9-month contract with annual renewal depending on performance, departmental needs, and funding.

Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate statistics and graduate data science classes offered by the Department of Statistics, advise capstone and thesis students, and perform other duties as assigned. Ample opportunities for additional summer teaching and research mentoring are available.

Location: The ideal candidate would be willing and able to relocate to the Kirksville area, but candidates wanting to work remotely will be considered. Candidates should indicate in their cover letter if they are interested in working from a location other than Kirksville, Missouri. Actual remote work locations must be pre-approved.

Required Qualifications: A doctoral degree in statistics, data science, data analytics, computer science, or a closely related field, with substantial coursework or teaching experience in statistics and/or data science by the date of employment. The candidate must demonstrate scholarly activity sufficient to merit appointment to our Graduate Faculty within a year of their hire.

Program: The Department of Statistics at Truman State University has recently launched a Professional Masters Degree in Data Science and Analytic Storytelling, in addition to a graduate certificate in data science and an undergraduate statistics major with concentrations in classical statistics and data science. The department has 10 full-time faculty members with a variety of specialties who support our programs and campus-wide needs with over 50 sections of undergraduate statistics and 20 sections of graduate data science courses annually. We also offer an undergraduate Statistics Minor and actively support an Actuarial Science minor, statistically-related majors across campus, and other interdisciplinary areas.
