CAUSE Cartoon Caption Contest #2 (submissions due July 1)

The Consortium for the Advancement of Undergraduate Statistics Education is happy to announce our second Cartoon Caption Contest.  Each month a cartoon, drawn by British cartoonist John Landers, will be posted for you and your students to suggest statistical captions.

The next cartoon and the entry rules for the contest ending July 1 are at
 https://www.causeweb.org/cause/caption-contest/july/2016/
The best captions will be posted on CAUSEweb and the winner(s) will receive their choice of a coffee mug or t-shirt imprinted with the cartoon or free registration to eCOTS 2018.

Enjoy.

June Results:  We had 50 submissions for the June caption contest that featured a cartoon showing two basketball teams with approximately equal average heights, and with the team with the smaller median height having one extremely tall player. The June caption contest was won by Albert Koenig, a student at Belgrade High School. Albert’s entry (“I told you outliers can be influential!”) was selected for being succinct and well suited for starting a conversation about introductory statistics learning objectives. Other entries that rose to the top of the judging included “There’s nothing standard about that deviation” written by Janet Zupkus, an instructor at Naugatuck Valley Community College and “I mean, statistically it’s a fair game … the mean height is the same,” written by Kayden Schaff also a student at Belgrade High School.
