Hi Everyone,

The Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Statistics Education (GAISE) College Report (http://www.amstat.org/education/gaise/GaiseCollege_Full.pdf), originally endorsed by the American Statistical Association (ASA) in 2005, has had a profound impact on the teaching of statistics.  Much has changed in the Statistics Education community and beyond in the intervening decade.  A committee originally assembled through the Section on Statistical Education has taken on the project of reviewing the GAISE recommendations and proposing changes to be incorporated into a new GAISE College Report.  This committee has been funded by an ASA Member Initiative grant to draft a new report, and the work of this committee is now well underway.

We welcome input from the entire Statistics Education community to ensure that the revised guidelines reflect a broad spectrum of points of view.    To help obtain this input, we have set up a short survey that can be accessed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/GAISE.  The survey outlines our proposed revisions to the GAISE College Report, and we invite you to take a few minutes to read through our proposal and share any thoughts, questions, or concerns that you might have.

To learn more about our work, you can also view our recent July 7th CAUSE webinar at:  https://www.causeweb.org/webinar/teaching/2015-07/index.php.  If you will be attending the 2015 Joint Statistical Meetings (JSM) in Seattle, we will also share our work during a panel session entitled “GAISE into the Future:  Updating a Landmark Report for an Increasingly Data-Centric World.” This session will take place on Monday, August 10th, from 2 to 3:50 p.m. Pacific Time.  We hope to have a full draft of the revised report ready to share by early 2016.

Thank you in advance for your input on this work!

Sincerely,

Michelle Everson, Committee Chair
